Gregory Stevens was shot about 12:30 a.m. outside Greenway Apartments at 5300 E. 21st St. The suspected shooter, Charles Williams, 22, was in fair condition at Wishard Memorial Hospital after being shot at least seven times. Police say Williams refused to drop his weapon when they arrived at the scene, leading to a shootout. Stevens, a former U.S. Marine who spent three tours of duty in Iraq, is a four-year member of the force.
