Yowza!!, a coupon phone app co-founded by a Carmel software developer, will be acquired by Arizona mobile commerce company Spindle Inc.
Publicly traded Spindle did not disclose in a Dec. 11 announcement how much it paid for Yowza International Inc., which operates in Los Angeles.
Yowza began in 2009 when a mutual friend paired August Trometer, who was working at an Indianapolis data management firm, with actor Greg Grunberg.
Grunberg, needing someone who could develop software, presented Trometer with the idea for a coupon app. The company received help from prominent director and producer J.J. Abrams, who suggested naming the app “Yowza!!”•
