Flames broke out around 5 a.m. at the Senate Square Apartments near 30th Street and Lafayette Road. Indianapolis Fire Department crews said nine occupants—three adults and six children—were in the process of escaping when they arrived. Damage from the fire, which is still under investigation, was estimated at $250,000.
