Barnes & Thornburg LLP this morning announced the opening of its second new office within the past week – this one in Columbus, Ohio.

The Indianapolis-based law firm’s Columbus office is its first foray into Ohio. It follows the Atlanta office that the law firm launched last week.

Barnes & Thornburg now has nine locations nationwide.

William A. Nolan, formerly of Squire Sanders & Dempsey LLP in Columbus, will staff Barnes & Thornburg’s office there and has joined the firm as a partner in its labor and employment law group.

Nolan earned a bachelor’s degree from Cornell University in 1984 and a law degree from Harvard University in 1989. He is a former councilman and mayor of Powell, Ohio, a city of about 6,200 north of Columbus.

In recent years, Barnes & Thornburg has seen an increased need for labor and employment counseling from clients headquartered or operating in Ohio, Managing Partner Alan Levin said.

Besides Indianapolis, Barnes & Thornburg has Indiana offices in Elkhart, Fort Wayne and South Bend. Other locations are in Chicago; Grand Rapids, Mich.; Washington, D.C.; and Atlanta.

With about 430 lawyers, Barnes & Thornburg is the 109th-largest firm in the country, according to National Law Journal.
