Rush to give her first state of judiciary speech

Indiana's first female chief justice will give her first state of the judiciary speech to Gov. Mike Pence and lawmakers this week.

Indiana Chief Justice Loretta Rush, who took over the position in August, will give the speech at 2 p.m. Wednesday before a joint session of the Indiana General Assembly. Trial and appellate judges from across the state wearing traditional black robes also will attend.

Her speech is expected to focus on improving public safety, strengthening Hoosier families and modernizing courts.

The Indiana Constitution requires the chief justice to provide Indiana lawmakers with an update on the condition of the courts.

The address will be webcast live at courts.in.gov. Indiana Public Broadcasting Stations also will also air the address on radio and television stations throughout the state.
