IU to establish schools of public health-WEB ONLY

Indiana University has announced plans to establish schools of public health in Bloomington and Indianapolis.

IU President Michael McRobbie said the schools will work on public health problems in the state, such as obesity, cardiovascular disease and diabetes.

The Bloomington school will focus on rural health issues while the school on the IUPUI campus in Indianapolis will work with the IU School of Medicine to focus more on urban health issues.

IU expects to have planning and the necessary approvals for the Bloomington school completed by next year. A formal plan for the Indianapolis school isn’t expected until 2011.
