Illinois-based Allstate Insurance Co. is working to recruit 55 new agency owners in Indiana by the end of 2010, the company said today.

If successful, the recruitment push would boost Allstate’s Hoosier agent force by 25 percent, to 273.

Allstate agents sell automobile, homeowners and other kinds of property insurance, as well as various financial services.

Allstate said its ideal candidates would already have skills to run their own business and $50,000 in liquid capital to open a new Allstate agency.

“This is really a great time for us to attract people who are self-motivated,” said David Kaehr, Allstate vice president of sales for Indiana, said in prepared statement. “We’re working with outplacement services and through our own recruiters to find these professionals with financial or sales backgrounds.”

The company said it would offer insurance education to those without a background in the industry.

Allstate is the nation’s largest publicly-held auto and homeowners insurance company.
