Indiana State Police say the Hancock County auditor has been arrested on five felony charges, including bribery.

State police arrested 42-year-old Linda J. Grass at her office at the county courthouse in Greenfield yesterday and took her to the county jail. But a jail officer who answered the phone said she had been instructed not to release any information and would not say whether Grass was in custody.

State police say Grass allegedly accepted payments totaling about $54,000 in exchange for a contract for courthouse repairs totaling about $238,000 that was not approved by the county commissioners.

Grass faces preliminary charges of bribery, corrupt business influence, theft, conflict of interest and obstruction of justice.

There was no published phone listing under her name and she could not be contacted for comment.
