Carmel, Fishers among richest Midwestern cities

Two Hamilton County communities ranked in the top five wealthiest cities in the Midwest in a new report from personal finance website NerdWallet.

Carmel is listed as the second-wealthiest city and Fishers is ranked fifth among municipalities with a population of at least 65,000. Nationally, Carmel ranked 22nd and Fishers is listed as 58th wealthiest out of 475 cities in the study.

The analysis scored each community based on median household income, median home price, percentage of homes with no mortgage and average credit limit.

Carmel’s median household income is $109,375 and the median home price is $296,600. About 22 percent of homes don’t have a mortgage, and the average credit limit is $62,910.

The median household income in Fishers is $91,262, and the median home price is $209,700. Fifteen percent of homes are without a mortgage, and the average credit limit is $40,441.

The other Midwestern cities in the top five were three Chicago suburbs—Naperville, Arlington Heights and Evanston.•
