IndyGo plans to buy six new hybrid vehicles for its transportation supervisors, the organization announced yesterday.

The Ford Hybrid Escapes, which will replace six aging minivans, get an estimated 34 miles per gallon in the city.
The vans get about 15 mpg.

In addition, IndyGo plans to introduce a Segway to its supervisory fleet for use in
the downtown square.

Funding for the Escapes and Segway comes from federal grants requiring a 20-percent local
match. Total cost of the vehicles is about $175,000.
