Kmart closing Martinsville store

Kmart Corp. has notified the Indiana Department of Workforce Development that its Martinsville store will close Nov. 30,
costing 48 employees their jobs.

The closure will leave the metropolitan area with eight Kmart stores — five
in Indianapolis, and one each in Anderson, Brownsburg and Greenwood.

The company for years has struggled to keep
pace with rivals Wal-Mart and Target, whose supercenter stores have proven more popular with consumers.

Kmart
purchased Sears in 2005.
