Area home builders have busiest February since 2006

March 19, 2018

Area home builders saw their busiest February in a dozen years last month, according to numbers released Monday by the Builders Association of Greater Indianapolis.

Builders filed 481 single-family construction permits in the nine-county area in February, a 37 percent increase over the 351 permits they filed in 2017, BAGI said.

It was the busiest February for permit filings since 2006, when 769 were filed.

February’s performance comes on top of a big January in which 494 permits were filed, a rise of 43 percent over the same month of 2017.

Area filings have been on the rise in 25 of the last 27 months on a year-over-year basis.

Marion County saw a 73 percent increase in filings in February, from 63 to 109.

Hamilton County led the area in filings with 176, an increase of 31 percent from the previous February.

Hendricks County saw 79 filings, up 61 percent.

Filings dipped by one in Johnson County, to 34. They rose 12 percent in Boone County, to 29.

Filings were up 36 percent in Hancock County, to 36, and rose from six to eight in Morgan County.

Permits rose from four to five in Shelby County and fell from eight to five in Madison County.
