Contract packaging firm to terminate 86 workers in plant closure

Quality Packaging Specialists International LLC plans to close its plant in Mooresville, ending employment for 86 employees.

In a notice to the Indiana Department of Workforce Development dated Tuesday, Burlington, New Jersey-based QPSI said it would terminate employees in two groups, on Sept. 30 and Dec. 31, at the contract packaging facility.

Employees at the plant, 9440 S. State Road 39, include 38 line operators, 16 quality inspectors, 10 master leads, six managers or assistant managers and five shipping/receiving workers.

The company did not say why it was closing. It said employees would receive severances if they stay until the planned closure dates.

QPSI, founded in 1992, is the largest privately owned contract packaging company in the nation, with 11 packaging facilities in the United States.
