State system for matching jobs is obsolete, report says

February 19, 2007

The computer search engine that helps the Indiana Department of Workforce Development match unemployed people with jobs offers only a small portion of the jobs listed on CareerBuilder, Monster and other Web sites, according to the Post-Tribune of Merrillville.

The CS3 search engine used by WorkOne is so obsolete that one former state worker estimated about 10 percent of local employers in the area use it.

Workforce Development is negotiating to roll out an alternative site, but so many sources of job openings are available that some critics say it might be unnecessary for the government to offer its own.
