Chrysler, GM discussing design pact, report says

General Motors Corp. and Chrysler about a month ago began negotiating a design agreement that involves sharing chassis designs in order to cut costs, according to Bloomberg, quoting unnamed sources familiar with the talks.

Yesterday, DaimlerChrysler AG officials wouldn’t comment on a report in the German magazine Manager Magazin that the German automaker is in talks to sell its Chrysler unit to GM.

The flurry of reports comes on the heels of yesterday’s announcement that Chrysler will eliminate 2,000 white-collar and 11,000 blue-collar workers to try to restore profits.
