Ball State University announced today that veteran economist Michael Hicks has been hired to direct its Bureau of Business Research.
Hicks most recently was associate professor of economics at the Air Force Institute of Technology’s Graduate School of Engineering and Management at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, Ohio.
He replaces Patrick Barkey, now director of health care research at the Bureau of Business and Economic Research at the University of Montana.
Hicks also is an adjunct scholar at the Mackinac Center for Public Policy, an independent think tank headquartered in Midland, Mich.
He had been a tenured professor at Marshall University in Huntington, W.Va. An economics major at Virginia Military Institute, Hicks earned doctoral and master’s degrees in economics from the University of Tennessee.
Hicks’ research focuses on tax and expenditure policy, environmental regulation, alternative and traditional energy, and the economic impact of Wal-Mart on local economies.
