Subscribe NowNine Macy’s department stores will close, including the one in Washington Square Mall, Cincinnati-based Macy’s Inc. announced this afternoon. The Washington Square store employs 90. It opened in 1974 as an L.S. Ayres store. Macy’s didn’t specify when the store will close.
The other stores closing are in Ohio, Texas, Utah, Oklahoma and Louisiana.
The stores targeted for closure have been identified as those with declining sales and no growth potential foreseen in the near future, the company said.
Displaced workers will be offered jobs at nearby Macy’s stores. In Indianapolis, there are Macy’s stores in Castleton, Glendale, Lafayette Square and Greenwood Park malls. Another nine Macy’s stores operate in cities across the state.
