Escalade shifts archery production to China

February 18, 2008

Evansville-based sporting goods maker Escalade Inc. is shutting down a children's archery line because a needed investment in upgraded equipment would be too expensive.

Instead, Escalade will import the line from China.

The company will lay off 25 workers in Evansville as a result, according to the Evansville Courier & Press.

Escalade, which also makes pool tables, basketball goals and other sports equipment, started the children's archery business nearly 80 years ago.

On Friday, the company reported stagnant fourth-quarter profit of $2.6 million.
