Interactive Intelligence profit drops, sales rise

Profit at Indianapolis-based Interactive Intelligence Inc. fell 36 percent, to $1.1 million, in the first quarter due to timing of taxes on its earnings.

However, the developer of business communications software saw operating income climb to $1.5 million in the quarter ended March 31 from $1.4 million a year earlier. The income was driven by record revenue of $29.6 million, up 21 percent.

Interactive said sales were stoked by companies looking to its contact center and enterprise Internet protocol telephone products and services in order to cut costs and keep customers.

Orders shot up 39 percent from a year earlier, and nine new customers signed contracts exceeding $250,000.
