Bosch buying West Lafayette firm for $205M

German industrial giant Robert Bosch GmbH said late last week that it plans to buy CST/berger, a West Lafayette-based maker of laser tools, for $205 million. The deal must be approved by regulators.

CST/berger is owned by The Stanley Works of New Britain, Conn. Its tools for measuring, detection and leveling help contractors and homeowners calculate angles and distances.

The company’s headquarters are in Purdue Research Park. CST/berger employs 350 workers in the United States, Germany and Italy.

Bosch’s acquisition is part of an overall strategy of expanding into global measuring tools. It was not immediately clear what impact the acquisition would have on the West Lafayette location.
