  1. I’m just curious about the effects of alcoholism on health costs in our state? The continued demand to increase taxes on cigarettes seems disproportionate to the increase in alcohol tax! Oh wait, is it because the liquor lobby is more powerful than the tobacco companies. I understand the health risks associated with smoking, but there are many times when it is easier for a doctor to say someone smokes and that is the reason for an illness versus really investigating the cause. Yes, I smoke, but my health costs are much lower than many of my friends and family who are non-smokers but drinkers!
