Pictures would be nice and have you seen the Korean hand hoe, the Homie?
I used to hate hoe work. A real childhood aversion! Somewhere about 60 years of age I started to take out frustrations by using a sharp hoe and cutting the weeds with a scraping action along the surface. Actually that is more like what I do now. At 60, I was still hale and hearty enough to deep till with a hoe. There is something very satisfying about hoe work, and on a hot summer day, no one will bother you, especially if you set the cellphone volume low enough to miss it when working. Artillery ears will handle full volume, LOL.
