Indiana reports another 6,288 new COVID-19 cases, 85 more deaths

The Indiana State Department of Health on Thursday reported 6,288 new COVID-19 cases, the first time new cases have topped 6,000 in four days.

The department also reported 85 more deaths, marking the 24th consecutive day that deaths have exceeded 25 in the daily report.

The total number of deaths climbed to 7,391.

Statewide hospitalizations due to COVID-19 dipped from 3,123 on Tuesday to 3,013 on Wednesday. The high mark was 3,460 set on Nov. 30.

COVID-19 patients occupy 29.7% of the state’s intensive care beds and non-COVID patients are taking up 48%, leaving 22.3% available.

The department said 16,608 new individuals had been tested. Testing in that category has exceeded 10,000 for 59 straight days.

The 7-day positivity rate for unique individuals was 23.8%.

Following are the latest COVID-19 numbers from the Indiana State Department of Health. The department updates its data daily based on information received through 11:59 p.m. the previous day.

Cumulative positivity rate unique individuals: 18.8%

Seven-day positivity rate unique individuals: 23.8%**

Seven-day positivity rate all tests: 12%**

** The health department reports the 7-day positivity rates with a six-day lag to allow time for more comprehensive results.

Hendricks County cumulative cases: 10,566

Boone County cumulative cases: 4,172

Hancock County cumulative cases: 4,743

Morgan County cumulative cases: 3,982

Shelby County cumulative cases: 3,178

Indiana intensive care unit usage

Available ICU beds: 22.3%

ICU beds in use by COVID-19 patients: 29.7%

Available ventilators: 70.1%

Ventilators in use for COVID-19: 13.1%

U.S. cases: 18,511,268

U.S. deaths: 327,065

Global cases: 78,986,314

Global deaths: 1,735,905

*New cases, deaths and tests are previously unreported cases, deaths and tests submitted to the Indiana State Health Department in the 24 hours through 11:59 p.m. the previous day. The cases and testing categories typically contain numerous duplicates—as many as 20% or more—that are later eliminated from the cumulative totals.
