Will we need a new electric power plant? If so the data centers should pay then bill the users.
Seems like a reasonable economic investment for Indianapolis on a parcel that has been vacant for 40 plus years…
Yes
That is environmentally contaminated and is currently zoned for even more intense uses not to mention it fronts a rail line.
It’s ridiculous this is even controversial
I look forward to both this and the larger improvement to the community, and the eventual realization by the community that this is a positive move for them and all of us!
Good job by the MDC and support from CCC Gibson!
Martindale Brightwood, among other urban Indy neighborhoods, needs more community assets not a data center… Toxic land can be remediated, though it takes time and money like everything else. Indy needs more improvements for quality of life around town and not more dismal office/warehouse/data center buildings that only make big profit for the select few…
The city is still reeling in its toxic heritage/urban displacement. Less do we need to further divide that gap!
While it can be cleaned up it would not be able to have any type of residential component because of the contamination.
Data centers are the new redlining. Pay attention to where they’re being built.
lol….Redlining???Seriously??
Unbelievable!
That land has been vacant for decades. No one other than the data center has stepped forward to develop it. Finally a developer steps forward when no body else would and it gets called racism .
I hear a lot of the arguments for this data center and they’re the same as the arguments for the Crew Car Wash at 38th & Illinois. The same arguments which all fell flat and the car wash is now an ugly blight on the community.
Why do you feel that the car wash is a “ugly blight” on the community? I use it several times per month and it seems like a well kept piece of property with a well know efficiently run business.
It’s a low-value land use that produces very little in tax revenue, it wedged a suburban land use and development style into a dense, urban district, it’s a massive generator of trash and traffic, and it was never held accountable to the already arbitrary “local hiring strategy” which was promised. Any future development of that site will require environmental remediation, paid for by taxpayers. It was foolish of the City to approve it.
