History: Kraft established its manufacturing presence in the northern Indiana city of Kendallville in 1935, initially producing caramel candies. The operation began making Jet-Puffed products in 1961 and has since scaled up its production of “marshmallow innovations.” Now, over 400 hourly and salaried employees, whom the company calls “the guardians of our beloved and nostalgic brands,” work at the facility.

S’more than marshmallows: The Kendallville facility produces an expansive line of Jet-Puffed products, including marshmallows, marshmallow crème and dehydrated, as well as Kraft Caramels. Marshmallows come in several shapes (flowers, snowmen, llamas, etc.), sizes (from mini to jumbo) and flavors (like vanilla, strawberry, candy corn and peppermint). Offerings now also include marshmallows that change color when held over the fire or heated in the microwave.

How it works: “Each day, our skilled technicians freshly bake up to 600,000 pounds of Jet-Puffed Marshmallows using a process that inserts air into each marshmallow, giving them the fluffy texture that consumers know and love from Jet-Puffed,” said Bill Davis, Kendallville plant manager.

Fun fact: More than 130 million pounds of Jet-Puffed Marshmallow and Kraft Caramel products are produced annually at the Kendallville facility, the sole producer of both brand lines.
