  1. Congrats to Simons, Shelton, Opry, and Boxcar, etc., for this extraordinary project,! This will be a fantastic addition to the district and the city!

    1. That’s gonna be a hard pass from me. Indy definitely needs more musical talent and Downtown needs more entertainment, but we should avoid trying to emulate Nashville.

  2. I’ve always said Indy need more developments and establishments like this. When people come to Indy for conventions or sporting events there needs to be more entertainment to do after major events. I would love to see more of this and more entertainment catered towards children and families downtown. The old airport terminal would be a good place for an indoor outdoor water park and amusement park. The nearest parks are hours away.

    1. “The old airport terminal”? You mean the one that was located off South High School Road, on the east side of the airfield? It was vacated in 2008 following the opening of the new midfield terminal and was demolished in 2013. The area now serves as part of the FedEx hub and a large solar farm.

      + 1
      You nailed it.
Indianapolis needs a lively entertainment district downtown along the major streets south of Market street within a short walking distance of the convention center and the hotels.

An entertainment district for the locals, the IUPUI students, and all the out of towners would be a win win for everyone.

A lively fun entertainment district downtown could serve as a major catalyst for downtown growth and development.

This could also spur more tourism along with more conventions and special events

The city should ask Simmons and other major players for advice in developing a large entertainment district downtown. Treat this as an economic development strategy.

    1. I take the reference to the “old airport terminal” literally, not assuming it meant something as vague as “in the area.”
