Good move.
-> The top 3 picks in the upcoming draft are projected to be really good, and the top 4 picks protected for the Pacers.
-> It’s unlikely that the Pacers would’ve been able to get a player as good as Zubac if the lottery pegs their pick between 5th and 9th. This is especially true when it comes to center, which is a position that the Pacers need.
-> Mathurin has a lot of talent, but it’s been clear for a while that he’s not a great fit on this Pacers team with Tyrese & Rick.
->2029 pick likely isn’t going to be worth much.
I agree with Robert on all counts.
Just hope Zubac doesn’t tear his achilles or strain his calf in the airport on the way over.
For those that have complained that Zubac has ‘no game’ facing the basket….exactly, …and that’s what’s been missing since the last true center they had, Roy Hibbert. Myles was a 6’11” THREE.
Bill Russell, Wilt, Kareem, Bob Lanier etc ‘maybe’ took a dozen TOTAL jump shots in their entire careers combined. The Pacers have desperately needed a true big man in the paint to alter and block shots while being a strong rebounder. Now they have him. The question is: What took so long? I’ll start watching again although the RX is to tank. Way overdue. Despite what ‘new bballers’ theorize, the most important position on the floor is the position Zubac will be handling.
Next, the P’s need to get actual NBA 3-point ‘assassins’….like Caruso and a handful of others out there.
The most important position in basketball is the point guard. This isn’t the 90s where you have players post up and bang the ball for 20 seconds. Zubac brings great rebounding and scoring around the basket. But don’t compare today’s fast paced game, which is exactly how the Pacers play, to how teams played back in the day.
If the Pacers get lucky enough to get one of the first four picks this spring then this trade will be fabulous. Our track record says we are due for some luck. They were never going anywhere next year without a true center. This will make Siakem even better. Also time for Walker and Furphy to show they are ready to contribute night in and night out.
