Almost all governments, since the 19th century, have realized the economic benefit of a reliable postal system.
Living downtown in a large city I have several options for delivery, plus I live 3 minutes from a post office and if that proves unreliable, I can afford to use an alternative carrier.
There are tens of millions of rural people (mostly Trump Supporters) that don’t have any options. It will take a while, but these people are going to get the short end of the stick. Costs will skyrocket and service levels will go down. A hundred thousand USPS employees will get hosed out of pensions and maybe even jobs. In addition, I am suer that some millionaire or billionaire champaign supporter is going to wrap up the new contract.
I don’t understand why a first class letter still costs $0.73. Anything I have mailed in Europe cost at least 1EUR. Even at $1.00 mailing a letter would still be a bargain.
