State COVID infections rise to 1,284, with six deaths

The Indiana State Department of Health on Thursday reported that 1,284 Hoosier had been diagnosed with COVID-19, the highest number of daily new infections since 1,438 cases were reported on April 29.

The number of infections was a small increase from the 1,248 reported on Wednesday, after a spike in the number of cases since late June and infections once again charting higher than 1,000 this week.

The department also said that six people in Indiana had died in the latest daily count. The state reported 15 deaths on Tuesday and 12 on Wednesday.

The state’s cumulative death toll is now 13,570.

Hospitalizations rose to 795, up from 781 the previous day. That’s the highest level since May 25, when 810 people were hospitalized in Indiana due to the virus.

Hospitalizations are down from a recent high of 1,019 on May 4. The pandemic-high mark was 3,460, set on Nov. 30.
