Good move, just because they are “contractors” does not make the company who’s name is on the line exempt from lawsuits when they fail to conduct proper background checks and perform the same due dilligence as any other employer would be required to complete prior to taking on someone. After all, the apps are not called “Jim Smith”, they are called Uber and Lyft and it is Uber and Lyft who collect the money then pay Jim Smith.
