Maybe mandating that all K-12 schools, public and private, offer physical education and recreation at least 3 hours a week is a place to start.

I remember this in Hr High back in the 70’s. We had PE 4 or 5 days a week, but once a year we would sudden;y do the “”Presidential Fitness Test”. I would do sit ups until I couldn’t move and would be sore for the next three days. I remember out of the blue being told we had to run a mile and then throwing up half way through.
Even then the whole thing was a joke.
