Included with the Democrat healthcare requests is $1.4 trillion dollars in additional spending. Much of the spending pertains to issues and programs the voters rejected in the 2024 elections.
The House Republicans passed a clean CR. The Democrat response is to increase spending by $1.4 trillion dollars with our country already $37 trillion dollars in debt.
The IBJ needs to do better at reporting all pertinent facts and their readers deserve better.
The Republican response to that supposed deficit issue was to cut taxes yet again. A serious attempt at solving the deficit would have paired both spending cuts with real revenue increases via a rollback of tax cuts.
The reality of the situation is both sides need to compromise and Republicans burned any good will with the rescissions nonsense the last time Democrats trusted them. Why should Democrats come to the table?

You’re leaving out that this $1.4 trillion is largely healthcare. Republicans want to gut the ACA and throw millions of people off of health insurance and that’s not acceptable. At all.
Republicans are also the ones who trashed our budgetary standing and blew up the deficit. You don’t get to lecture Democrats about “fiscal responsibility” anymore. Conservatives own this disaster.
