2020 YEAR IN REVIEW: Beer-distribution giant scooping up Monarch

Reyes Beer Division, the nation’s largest beer distributor, announced in October that it plans to acquire Indianapolis-based Monarch Beverage Co., Indiana’s largest beer distributor.

Monarch has about 600 employees and distributes 16.1 million cases to more than 6,000 customers, with brands from suppliers that include Molson Coors, Constellation, Heineken USA, Diageo, Mike’s, Boston Beer, Yuengling, Lagunitas and Pabst Blue Ribbon.

The deal is the latest in a string of acquisitions for Reyes, which has rapidly expanded its footprint in 2020.

Monarch has been family-owned and locally operated since 1947. It was founded by Edwin T. French Sr. and has operated under three generations of French family ownership.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed. Monarch had $341 million in annual revenue as of 2016. More recent revenue was not available.
