Criteria included the mix of shops, quality of food, customer service and responsiveness of airport management.
Airports were judged by more than 100 industry experts.
Also getting the thumbs-up were individual concession operators serving the Indianapolis airport, including HMS Host, Paradies Shops, Brooks Brothers and Natalie's Candy.
"By working with our business partners to implement established visual design criteria, we were able to showcase individual store concepts with creative yet functional designs that complemented the look and feel of the terminal," said airport Retail Director Mary Ann Falatic.
The midfield terminal opened in November with 23 food and beverage concessions, 24 specialty retail stores, and eight news and gift shops.
