2 GOP challengers topped Burton in 3rd-quarter fundraising

Congressman Dan Burton trails two Republican challengers in fundraising for the 5th District race.

WISH-TV Channel 8 reported Tuesday that federal campaign finance reports show former U.S. Attorney Susan Brooks raised $341,000 during the third quarter despite a late start in the race and former congressman David McIntosh raised nearly $322,000. Burton raised $269,000.

Burton had fewer than 10 Indiana donors to Brooks' 400.

WISH also reported that McIntosh has dropped the exploratory label from his campaign after meeting his goal of raising more than $250,000.

Burton is seeking his 16th term in Congress next year but for the third election in a row he's facing well-funded challenges within his own party. The crowded Republican primary field also includes former Marion County Coroner John McGoff and Fishers attorney Jack Lugar.
