Irving Materials acquires northern Indiana competitor

Greenfield-based Irving Materials Inc. announced Thursday that it has acquired the assets of Rock Industries Inc., a quarry operator based in the northern Indiana city of Peru.

Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

Rock Industries operates aggregate quarries in Peru and Plymouth. The acquisition brings Irving Materials’ total number of mining operations in Indiana to 18.

Rock Industries has operated in the two cities since 1977 under the ownership of the Smith family. It serves the construction industry and produces more than 500,000 tons of stone, sand and gravel annually. The company has 20 full-time employees.

Founded in 1946, Irving Materials produces building materials for the construction industry. IMI Aggregates operates mining, crushing and sorting facilities throughout Indiana, and IMI Concrete delivers ready-mix concrete to construction sites in six states.
