On behalf of the Fairbanks Hospital board of directors, I want to commend IBJ for its July 9 article about Helene Cross and her remarkable leadership as president and CEO of Fairbanks. Helene’s tenure is notable for fiscal responsibility and dedication to creating an environment of compassion and support for our patients. Hope Academy, which offers a unique and supportive environment for high school students in recovery from drug and alcohol addictions, is just one example. Over the past three years, Fairbanks also has funded $7.3 million in charity care for those unable to afford addiction treatment. Cross’s lasting legacy to our community is a fiscally sound, vital institution that offers hope and compassionate treatment to addicted men, women and adolescents, including the underserved.
