Troy, Mich.-based Meritor Inc., a global supplier of commercial truck parts, announced Tuesday that it plans to consolidate its North American remanufacturing operations in Plainfield and create 82 jobs by the end of 2013.
As part of the $1.4 million expansion, the company expects to move the operations from Ontario, Canada, to its existing 275,300-square-foot facility in Hendricks County.
Meritor, which has 350 employees in Plainfield, will begin hiring for additional production and skilled-trade jobs this month, the company said.
Indiana Economic Development Corp. said it will provide Meritor up to $450,000 in performance-based tax credits and up to $50,000 in training grants based on the company’s job-creation plans. The town of Plainfield will consider additional property tax abatements.
Founded in 1909 in Detroit, Meritor has 70 locations in 19 countries and employs nearly 10,000 people worldwide. The company supplies drive-train, mobility, braking and other aftermarket parts for commercial vehicles and industrial markets.
