Parks foundation gets $10M from Lilly Endowment

The Indianapolis Parks Foundation has received a record-setting $10 million grant from the Lilly Endowment to upgrade 13 parks in Marion County, the foundation announced Monday.

The foundation will receive the $10 million over three years, starting in 2013.

It is the largest single gift the foundation has ever received, topping a $7.3 million grant from the Lilly Endowment in 2009.

Among other projects, the funds will be used for improvements to the Frank and Judy O’Bannon Soccer Complex in the Old Northside neighborhood, revitalization of Tarkington Park, development of Wildwood Park in southeast Indianapolis, and refurbishment of concession stands and rest rooms at the Chuck Klein Softball Complex.

Other parks will receive playground equipment, walking trails, new rest rooms and shelters.
