State lawmakers have given final approval to a two-year extension of regulations on temporary outdoor stage rigging developed after the deadly Indiana State Fair stage collapse.
The proposal would keep in place until 2016 the temporary rules that were approved last summer by Indiana's building-safety commission.
Bill sponsor Rep. Robert Cherry of Greenfield said that would give the commission time to hold hearings and take other steps needed to adopt permanent rules.
House members voted unanimously Wednesday in favor of the bill previously approved by the Senate. It now goes to the governor for consideration.
The temporary rules create a buffer zone extending 8 feet beyond the height of stage rigging to protect fans. The rules were adopted after the 2011 fair collapse during high winds that killed seven people.
