Two Indiana cities will receive millions of dollars to help spur economic development after being named 2014 Stellar Communities.

Lt. Gov. Sue Ellspermann announced Thursday that Huntingburg and Wabash had been chosen from among six finalists. Decatur, Mount Vernon, Nashville and Marion also had been in the running.

The Stellar Communities program is a collaboration between the Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority, the Office of Community and Rural Affairs and the state Department of Transportation. Its goal is to help communities achieve long-term strategic goals for key areas.

Huntingburg Mayor Denny Spinner says he's honored by the designation and believes the strategic plan will benefit the community for years to come.

Prior to Thursday's announcement, six Indiana communities had received awards ranging from nearly $10 million to $20 million.
