Hope the City remains safe during the Final Four Indianapolis ranks in the top 10 of the US’ most dangerous cities not good PR.
Yes, solve the safety issues downtown and Indianapolis could probably develop a great entertainment district.
You know what else would help PR for Indianapolis? If people would stop spreading fear and falsehoods in places like the IBJ comments section. It’s a never-ending loop of comments, mostly likely from readers in the northern suburbs who are afraid to venture downtown. I just looked up eight different lists of city rankings based on crime stats. Indianapolis was #9 on one of the lists, but did not appear anywhere in the top 10, or even top 25, of any of the others. Which specific list are you citing here? Or are you just amplifying the anti-Indy noise that gets posted in these comments daily?
Steven D.
No one wants Downtown Indianapolis to thrive and succeed more than myself.
Monument Circle and Washington Street on south are where the bulk of the problems are occurring. ** And a crime does not necessarily have to occur to discourage visitors.** Large groups of teenagers loitering
creates angst and people will not go into areas where they feel uncertainty.
Downtown needs a fun thriving vibe entertainment district. The economic benefits could be enormous. It could serve as a gathering place for the IU and Purdue students of Indianapolis ( both schools have plans for major expansion ),
out of town visitors, and the locals from all over Indianapolis.
Again, the economic benefits could be enormous. Think Austin and Nashville. Their downtown entertainment districts create a very warm & positive vibe that permeates to through out their cities. Let’s create that same vibe here and reap the rewards.
Steve, it’s not falsehoods that a shooting, shootout and or murder is not shocking news anymore when it occurs in the mile square and nearby. That being said, most of the participants on both sides are not “innocent victims”. It is still basically safe for most people who go downtown to enjoy themselves.
Donald F.
It’s not just actual crimes. It’s perceived threats from large groups of teenagers congregating.
I was in downtown Nashville on a Friday and Saturday evenings. Many more people and fewer cops.*And you didn’t see large groups of teenagers congregating causing problems.
Think here in Indy. The city market entrance on Market street was a major gathering place for vagrants.
It created angst for many people, especially women. No one wants to walk thru that. That’s the reality.
We get it Keith – you are afraid of black children who exist outside of their homes…
Until we get a new mayor and an entire new city hall staff nothing will change with perception. And even then we need state republicans to stop continuously punishing the hand that feeds it because blue bad
JJ Frankie ,
Wow!! lol….just ignore the facts and scream racism,. The facts are obvious yet your response was very low IQ.
The problem downtown of large groups of teenagers congregating late at night downtown is not a Republican problem or a finding problem. It is a parental problem.
