Officials in east-central Iowa have charged an Indiana contractor, accusing him of defrauding an Iowa woman out of about $50,000.

The Tama County Sheriff's Office has charged 21-year-old Shawn Bolduc Jr., of Bargersville, with first-degree theft.

Investigators say Bolduc, doing business as American Construction of Indianapolis, pressured the elderly woman into giving him several checks totaling about $50,000 for home repair work that should have cost only a fraction of that.

Authorities are searching for two other men believed to have been working with Bolduc.

Bolduc's next court appearance has been set for Tuesday. He's being held on $50,000 bail. His appointed public defender was out of the office Saturday and did not immediately return a message seeking comment.
