Fire at east-side Indianapolis business destroys dump trucks

Fire at an east-side trucking business destroyed seven 20-ton dump trucks valued at more than $1 million Wednesday.

Indianapolis Fire Department Battalion Chief Rita Reith said arriving firefighters found the seven trucks on fire in the parking lot of Wells Peden Trucking at about 7:30 a.m., The Indianapolis Star reported.

Crews controlled the blaze within 30 minutes. Officials say the fire caused tires on the vehicles to explode loudly.

No one was hurt in the fire and Reith says the cause remains under investigation.

Each of the trucks was valued at $150,000.

Wells Peden Trucking has been in operation for about seven years.

Officials said the business owners were on site and assisting in the investigation.
