French Lick Resort plans $17 million expansion project

French Lick Resort plans a $17 million expansion project that will add 56 guestrooms and a sports bar to the southern Indiana tourist destination.

French Lick officials said Monday that the six-story addition is being built near the French Lick Casino and Event Center. Construction has already begun and should be completed by fall 2019.

The additional rooms will supplement the existing 686 guestrooms at French Lick Resort’s two historic hotels and bring the resort’s overall capacity to 742 rooms. French Lick Springs Hotel has 443 rooms and West Baden Springs Hotel has 243.

The sports bar and new guestrooms will add 54,450 additional square feet in space to the resort.

Krempp Construction Inc. of Jasper is handling construction.

The new facilities are expected to create 100 jobs at the resort.

The resort has undertaken several major projects in recent years, including a $20 million expansion of the event center in 2015.

An extensive renovation of Exhibition Hall is nearing completion, The former Billiards and Bowling Pavilion is being redeveloped into an upscale venue for weddings and other special functions.

“Both the new guestrooms and sports bar will be great additions to an area of the resort that has seen some incredible growth in recent years,” said Adina Cloud, the resort’s director of sales, in written remarks.
