  1. I am desperately trying to keep both of my boomer parents off of social media for as long as possible, especially in the age of AI. Can’t keep my mom off of her Candy Crush app, though

  2. “Perhaps even more relevant is the life experience of the typical retiree. A decade ago, seniors may have never encountered a computer in their professional life or made the switch from a flip phone to a smartphone. Many contemporary retirees are as technologically literate as today’s teenagers.”

This is at best exaggerated anecdotal nonsense that probably doesn’t track with most older IBJ readers’ experience.

Not encountering a computer at work might apply to some blue-collar retirees, but not white-collar educated folks and not folks in manufacturing or warehouses. And there is a demographic issue, in that there are now two living generations of retired people, and clearly the folks born before WW2 are generally less tech-savvy and most never saw a computer at work until very late in their careers.

I’m past retirement age now, so a decade ago I was already past 55…and had been using computers for almost all of my working life (starting in the mid-1980s). First used the Internet in the mid-late 90s. Was a “late adopter” of smartphone…in 2011.
