Although Caitlin Clark is sidelined by injury, she made her first WNBA All-Star Weekend public appearance Friday morning as part of “Good Morning America,” which broadcast portions of its 7-9 a.m. hours from Morris Bicentennial Plaza.
Clark told “GMA” host Robin Roberts the weekend’s festivities are the result of “so many people that put in so much time and effort.”
Roberts asked Clark, who exited Tuesday’s Indiana Fever win against the Connecticut Sun with a right groin injury, for a health update.
“I’m feeling good,” Clark said. “Obviously, a lot of this cheers me up. It’s good to see everybody out here having a really good time.”
Four Fever players—Aliyah Boston, Kelsey Mitchell, Sydney Colson and Clark—chatted with Roberts during the telecast billed as an “All-Star Pep Rally.”
Boston and Mitchell were selected for Saturday’s All-Star Game, and Colson plans to perform stand-up comedy during Saturday’s Fever Fest concert at Everwise Amphitheater at White River State Park.
Pacers Sports & Entertainment selected the attendees for “Good Morning America’s” pep rally, which was not open to the public. However, several fans standing on the perimeter of Morris Bicentennial Plaza were invited to join the audience.
Janelle Lala, a 31-year-old resident of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, said she appreciated the chance to have a closer view of the action.
Lala, who has a ticket to Saturday’s All-Star Game, said she drove to Indianapolis to support University of Iowa alumna Clark.
“She represents everything that’s good in Iowa,” Lala said. “She’s a good role model, she’s good at basketball. I know Indiana’s the basketball state, but Iowa is pretty good, too.”
The pep rally doubled as an installment of “Good Morning America’s” Summer Concert Series, with G-Eazy and Bia performing near the show’s end. Bia performed “We On Go,” her single that ESPN is using as its anthem for 2025 WNBA coverage. G-Eazy and Bia are scheduled to perform as part of Saturday’s Fever Fest concert at Everwise Amphitheater at White River State Park.
In addition to the participation of Fever players, Friday’s telecast included appearances by league standouts Breanna Stewart, Napheesa Collier, Allisha Gray and Paige Bueckers.
Roberts asked Stewart, a three-time WNBA champion as a member of the Storm and her current team, the New York Liberty, to compare this year’s All-Star experience—her seventh—to her first in 2017.
“We didn’t have this,” Stewart said, noting “Good Morning America’s” presence and general excitement surrounding Saturday’s game.
Stewart, a two-time WNBA MVP, also mentioned All-Star Weekend as a change of pace from regular-season competition.
“It’s nice to have Fever fans cheering for us for once,” she said.
