As a subscriber you can listen to articles at work, in the car, or while you work out. Subscribe NowIndianapolis will hold a 10th redistricting forum in late February, the last in a series that previously hit all nine townships, the City-County Council announced Friday.
The event will be remote, according to a news release. The Zoom meeting is set for Feb. 24 from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m., and is open to any interested Marion County resident with registration online.
“The goal of the Your Voice 2022 initiative is to give residents a chance to offer input on the unique features of their current district they want officials to consider,” the news release says. At a forum in Central Township, for example, attendees pointed out neighborhoods such as Fountain Square that had been split across three districts.
The series comes before any maps or ordinances have been drafted, councilors and nonpartisan council staff have said.
“We want to have that authentic engagement for the community and have that engagement help inform what the potential changes to boundaries might look like. So the idea here is to make sure that we hear from the public before, not just after, the maps are crafted,” council Policy Director Brandon Herget told IBJ in January.
It’s unclear what public engagement will look like once there is a map and ordinance.
Indianapolis-based consultancy Engaging Solutions, which facilitated the in-person forums, will also host the virtual version.
