COVID-19 cases rise in Indiana by 736, deaths by 17

The Indiana State Department of Health on Sunday reported 736 new cases of COVID-19, the sixth time cases have been below 1,000 over the past eight days.

The state also reported 17 new deaths due to the coronavirus. Reported deaths due to COVID-19 have exceeded single digits in 139 of the past 140 days.

The department said 5,261 new individuals were tested Friday.

Statewide hospitalizations due to COVID-19 fell from 800 on Friday to 778 on Saturday. The high mark was 3,460, set on Nov. 30.

The state said more than 565,000 Hoosiers had been fully vaccinated against COVID-19 as of Sunday at 5 a.m. More than 992,000 had received the first dose of a vaccination.

Following are the latest COVID-19 numbers from the Indiana State Department of Health. The department updates its data daily based on information received through 11:59 p.m. the previous day.

Cumulative positivity rate all tests: 9.9%

Seven-day positivity rate all tests: 3.9%**

** The health department reports the 7-day positivity rates with a six-day lag to allow time for more comprehensive results.

Fully vaccinated: 565,722 (daily increase of 13,458)

Indiana intensive care unit usage

Available ICU beds: 39.6 %

ICU beds in use by COVID-19 patients: 5.3%

Available ventilators: 79.5%

Ventilators in use for COVID-19: 2.4%

*New cases, deaths and tests are previously unreported cases, deaths and tests submitted to the Indiana State Health Department in the 24 hours through 11:59 p.m. the previous day. The cases and testing categories typically contain numerous duplicates—as many as 20% or more—that are later eliminated from the cumulative totals.
