The Indiana State Department of Health on Tuesday said statewide hospitalizations and deaths from COVID-19 are continuing to rise.

The state reported 29 new deaths from COVID, the highest number in the daily report since March 11, when 32 deaths were reported. The seven-day moving average of new deaths rose from five to eight per day, the health department said.

The department said statewide hospitalizations due to COVID rose from 1,462 on Sunday to 1,517 on Monday, the largest number since Feb. 3, when 1,541 people were hospitalized with the virus.

The state said 18% of Indiana’s intensive care unit beds are occupied by COVID patients.

The state reported 2,726 new cases of COVID-19, the second-highest number of new cases since Jan. 23, when 3,188 cases were reported. Marion County had 365 new COVID-19 cases.

The state said more than 3 million Hoosiers had been fully vaccinated against COVID-19 as of Tuesday at 5 a.m. About 17,150 other Hoosiers had received the first dose of a two-dose vaccine but not the second dose.
